Colleen Hoekstra KNOX

Colleen and BillColleen Hoekstra Knox, now residing in England, is the owner of Knollwood Farm. She is a dedicated professional who has successfully competed and trained through each level of the sport of dressage to the highest, Grand Prix.  She has focused on nearly every aspect of horse care and training for almost 15 years with a passion to succeed both in the show ring and out.  As with many horse aficionados, Colleen has developed her love for the sport of dressage through her love for the animals.  Horses are unique companions and the rewards from working with them are something to cherish in a way that most non-horse lovers may never get a chance to experience.  It is through these relationships and daily interactions that Colleen has become so talented in the sport of dressage, and each day she works to provide as much satisfaction to the horses in her care as she receives from training alongside them, toward her goals.

As a rider, Colleen competes up through Grand Prix and hopes to continue to the international level with regularity in the future.  As it stands, she has ridden numerous times at Dressage at Devon, as well as in CDI's at Paxton in Ohio, Lamplight in Chicago, and Burbank in California.  Her progress in competition has quickened in the last number of years, and will continue to build as her current young horses move up the levels.  After 10 years of training together, she and the stallion Kevekko, her lifelong riding companion,  ompeted together at Grand Prix to a 61% in July 2005, and have countless National Year End Awards with the USDF, USEF, and the Midwest Dressage Association.

As a trainer and instructor, Colleen is pleased to inspire the same level of achievement in her students and their horses as she acquires during her own training time.  Although her true specialty is training troubled young horses, her patience and practical teaching methods bring a similar degree of excellence to her instruction.  She understands that each rider and horse combination have different needs and different goals in mind.  She uses this with her intuitive and practical dressage knowledge to aid every rider see the next stride with clarity and understanding, whether it be at First Level or Grand Prix.

Among her many accreditations, Colleen has received all three of her USDF medals, Bronze, Silver, and Gold, and is certified with honors as a USDF "L" Judge.  Recently she was selected for and attended the Young Horse Trainers' Symposium at Hilltop Farm in Colora, Maryland. Colleen strongly believes that the more she can know about every aspect of Dressage, and the more she can be involved in the sport that has become so much a part of her life, the more qualified she will be to pass on the best of her experiences to her students.
